my balcony plants are thriving in this heat! it looks like i'll be able to harvest a lot of tomatoes, despite having a north facing balcony that gets direct sunlight only at the end of the day.

unfortunately the heat that is so good for my plants is sending ontario's electricity suppliers into overdrive. on a daily basis we hear news about exceeding our electricity kilowatt usage and the threat of a blackout. i have to admit i was wishfully hoping out loud that toronto would have another major blackout. sadly my neighbour told me that during the previous blackout many people who were trying to live independent lives, but were dependent on life support systems, died! i am now in search for an alternate validated reason to be sent home from work.

Wishing for power failure? You're one step closer to cartoon villany, Poison Ivy :-)

i was so shocked to discover that home-grown tomatoes have so much more flavour! i think it's because supermarket tomatoes are picked when they are still green... another discovery: garden-grown carrots don't bleed orange onto your chopping board. scared to think of why that might be...
